Description: The Silti are a Muslim subgroup of the Gurage people-cluster which have been
recently recognized by the Ethiopian government as a distinct nationality. They
live primarily in Southwestern part of the Ethiopia in the most ethnically diverse
region of the country.
Prayer Points:
• The Silti claim descent from a 16th century Imam who was part of a Muslim invasion of Christian Ethiopia, then called Abyssinia. Since then the Silti have a history of conflict with their neighbors. Pray for a reversal of this history and that through Jesus they might become a source of blessing and hope to their nation.
• Recently 15 Ethiopian believers were arrested for sharing the gospel among the Silti. This resulted in an order to all churches in the area to cease evangelistic activity. Pray for courage and faith among believers in the Silti region to lift Jesus high above all else.
• A large number of Silti have migrated to Addis Ababa, where there are many Christians. Pray that many churches might have a vision to reach out to them and for Silti evangelists to be raised up from these efforts.
A Prayer: Heavenly Father, you alone have the final word on the history and future of the Silti people. Be exalted over their land through your Son Jesus.
