Description: The Sri Lankan Moors are predominately Tamil speaking Muslims which have lived on
the island of Ceylon for many centuries. They believe they are the descendants of
Muslim Arab traders, and seek to distinguish themselves from other South Asian
Muslims on the mainland.
Prayer Points:
• Most Moors are involved in business and trade, and there are numerous occupational castes among them. The most wealthy and prominent are the gem traders. Pray that the wealth of this community might be used to build the Church of Jesus Christ throughout Sri Lanka.
• The Lebbai community are religious teachers and mosque leaders among the moors. Pray that their spiritual leadership might be transformed into a prophetic Christ-centered vision for their people.
• The various Muslim castes in Sri Lanka freely marry among themselves with the exception of the barber caste, which is discriminated against in marriage. Pray for the redemption and uplift of the barber caste through Christ and that their access to every home among the Moors might bring the gospel to every family.
A Prayer: Heavenly Father, awaken the eternal destiny of the Sri Lankan Moors whom you are drawing to yourself through your Son Jesus.
Every year 30,000 Muhajirs die without Christ, many of whom never hear the gospel in their lifetime. Let's do something to change that.
